First Snow

FirstSnow2009

Notice how green the grass still is… and this is December in central Wisconsin.

Amazingly, we managed to get through November without any measurable snow. Then it turned into December, and like clockwork, the temperature dipped into the low 20s and we got dusted. More is on its way.

Please note: we accept sympathy and even prayers (not to mention money for heating fuel). If you need a god to pray to, for this purpose I suggest Ullr – Norse God of Snow. However, my guess is that he’s more put upon by skiers praying for snow. I suppose that means you will have to pray with great fervor. Then at least you’ll be warm…

I hate snow… so I live in California. But I have to admit I remember feeling such joy whenever we had a snowday off from school when I was a kid. It was thrilling to listen to the radio to hear the announcement of school closings, and finally hearing that your school was closed….ah, what a great feelin!

Unfortunately the natives are quite hardy when it comes to putting up with snow, so even on those rare occasions when they cancel school for the younger students, they usually leave the University open.

In Hawaii, of course, school was never canceled for weather-related reasons. So you had to come up with your own reasons… like surf’s being WAY up.
